1 million square meters waterproofed with MasterSeal 6100 FX and 1.7 million kilograms of CO₂ equivalents saved

Since the launch of MasterSeal 6100 FX, over a million square meters of concrete in 20 European countries have been coated with the cementitious elastic protection- and waterproofing solution – in infrastructure projects, industrial applications, water management, as well as residential construction. In comparison with conventional twocomponent cementitious waterproofing slurries, a total of more than 1.7 million kilograms of CO2 equivalents were saved during that time.

Waterproofing: what's is MasterSeal 6100 FX?

MasterSeal 6100 FX is an innovative waterproofing slurry from the Master Builders Solutions portfolio. A one-component material with a remarkably low specific weight, the product retains its flexibility down to a temperature of -10°C; it is fast-hardening, durable, waterproof at a layer thickness of only 2 millimeters, and suitable for the waterproofing and surface protection of interior as well as exterior surfaces. Its innovative formulation, enabling high waterproofing performance at low material density, makes MasterSeal 6100 FX a high-yield product with an up-to-85-percent increase in coverage compared with traditional products.

The contribution MasterSeal 6100 FX has been making to sustainability is precisely quantifiable as well: Since its launch, and documented in its eco-efficiency analysis, the product has helped save more than 1.7 million kilograms of CO2 equivalents: “This equals the CO2 emissions of 100 mid-size passenger cars, each covering a distance of 96,000 kilometers”, Berenguel explains.

The exceptional material properties of MasterSeal 6100 FX provide applicators with substantial benefits: its high-yield properties translate to reduced material requirements, which, in turn, results in significant savings across warehousing, transportation, and application. Moreover, MasterSeal 6100 FX does not require any additional products other than water – not even a primer –, making handling more straightforward and reducing complexity at the construction site. In new-construction projects, the fast-hardening properties of MasterSeal 6100 FX facilitate a more rapid construction progress; and when it comes to refurbishment or renovation projects, it results in an earlier return to service. “Beyond its environmental benefits, the savings in terms of time, labor, storage and logistics make MasterSeal 6100 FX a truly economical solution”, Berenguel points out.

Another key contribution MasterSeal 6100 FX makes to sustainable construction is its durability: Reliably crack-bridging even in demanding environments, the product requires only minimal maintenance to provide maximum performance. This ensures the concrete structures beneath remain protected from environmental impact in the long term: Any damage to the coating will compromise its protective effect and inevitably lead to damage in the structure it is meant to protect – resulting in premature repairs necessary on both the coating and the concrete structure. “With its durably reliable performance, MasterSeal 6100 FX renders premature refurbishment unnecessary and thus continues to save resources, emissions and labor even after installation”, Berenguel says. “And thanks to the UV-resistant colors – the coating is available in white and light gray – long-term protection and long-term visual appeal go hand in hand.”
